Target Group:

Sneha Sagar has been working with the Children at High Risk (CAHR) for the past 30 years.. most of the children are Living in streets, slums and in the red light areas. With years of experience with the children, the organization understood that they lack rights meant for them to Survive, participate, develop to be protected. They face lots of problems other common people and they are in need of a addressing their problems.

Poor Shelter:

Most of the children are involved with several businesses in the unorganized. Their incomes are misuses at time because of the social system prevalling around them. They lack information regarding, health and hygiene, their security, their livelihood and to have a family to live with. The shelters they rely for their livelihood are pavements of natural events such as rain because many of the houses are in the lowest part of Mumbai and water place and they are prone to diseases that affect children.

Child Labour:

Many of the childeren in our target group are still under child labour in unorganized sector. They are poorly paid. They were not keen in saving and their and their everyday life makes them away from saving. Especially their habit of chewing tobacco, threats through the cops, anti socail elements and their simple entertainment mentality demands money. The parents at these homes are daily wage labourers, petty business holders, vendors etc.... in certain cases some children have single parent involved in commercial sex work put them under great danger.

Childrens Bank:

The idea of Sneha Sagar is much wider and more dynamic in its approach. It is designed for the children and it will be run by the children and for the children in need. All the target group children will be involved in this in this programme and benefited.

Ensuring of dignified life of self esteem for the street and disadvantages children.

 Collective initiatives challenge their vulnerbility

Training them on money management, budgeting, prioritizing their needs, saving to be a responsible citizen to ensure their secured adult hood by empowering their child hood.

Objective:

The basic and primary objective of the Children's Bank is to strengthen the childern in vulnerable living conditions by extending life skills for their survival. It also ensures the responsibility to each child to take care of his own life by the support of the peer group ads the driving force. It encourages the children to develop the habit of prioritizing the needs of them, so that their hard earned money will not be wasted but saved.

Functioning:

The children in the target community will be the stake holders. The children those who are in need will also incorporated by easy accessibility. The savings will not be something a burden on them but will enhance them to understand their strength. Especially each child will be asked to pay a minimum of Rs 10/- in a week. This makes the child in regular contact with the bank. The sum of amount that they raise in a year will be around Rs 500/-. The amount seems very small yet it is an assurance for the child to rely on a space where it can demand its right for food.
