The above challenging truth of God moved the heart of the new pastor S. Alfred who came to serve the Lutherans but could not side line the downtrodden, oppresses slum dwellers of Mumbai especially Dharavi. The then Dharavi. The then Dharavi was full of boot leggars, pickpocketers rag pickers, henchmen tannery workers, daily labourers in railways and textiles mills and helpless poor mass (dalits) did not have proper shelter and lived in a 20x10 sq.ft.area huts. That too slept in shift system for want of space. |

The precarious condition of the slum dwellers moved the Christans to from a Good-will Co-operative Housing Society in early 1978 to build apartments to a cross section of the community people. It's modus operandi was; " For the people, of the people and by the people". It could not be materialized for want of huge found and large space in the challenge to serve this downtrodde community was not changed. So another kind of society, known as "Community Development Center was formed with the approval of India Evangelical Lutheran Church and was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1980 on 15th June 1979 and Later it was registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, on 17th August, 1979. It is not just an NGO but Christain organization to render social service to the marginalized, need Mumbaikars. |

The august occasion of the registration year of our society also was the International Year of the Child. Our nation's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once said about the children, " Our nation's future is in our view the visionary concentrated to give priority to stat the service from from gross root level by starting Concordia day care centre at the heart of the Dharavi slum in a rented hutment with the help of Holistic Child Deveopment India, Previously known as CNI-CSS. seeing the good service of our society our patron and financial partner Kindernoth Hilfe, C.V. Germany came forward to support many more day care centers in different infrastructure, we could not start many but one more: Redeemer Day care centre at Babrekar Nagar, Kandivali, Mumbai-67. As our society continued to serve the slum children more vulnerable children of our society came to it's sympathetic consideration. They are none other than street and working children. |
