A need based, development oriented plan was conceived by Rev.s. Alfred a Pastor of IELC for the slum masses of Dharavi, whihc is one of the largest slum in the whole Asia. A good will co-operative of slum dwellers from Dharavi, Malad etc. It could not be materialized for want to huge fund and large space in the crowded slum. But in its place the Lutheran Church in Mumbai a society knowns as Community Development Center was proposed. |

 1979 Community Development Center IELC, Mumbai was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 180, and later it was also registered under Mumbai Public Trust Act 1950 as a Non Government but a Christian organisation to render social services to the needy Mumbaikars. |

As 1979 was the International Year of the Child, a day care cemtre in the name of Concordia Day Care Centre was opened to bring development from the grossroot level in the rented tin shed. 30 children were enrolled and the Concordia Day Care Centre was born. The number of children increased upto 75 in the following years. |

To help out The unemployed and under salaried families and individuals of slum dweellers a self-support project was also inaugurated. Through this he needy and the young were given loans to undergo vocantional training and to do self employment business. |

 1980 A search for a piece of land or building began with the help from Lutheran World Federation through United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India, Chennai. |

 1982 Relief service was carried out to help the striking mill employers of Mumbai. |

 1983 The CDC entered into a sale agreement for a piece of land with a silapidated shed. The day care centre and all other activities were shifted to this shed from the rented place. |

 1984 An English medium pre-school was started in the name of st.Paul's English School with the intention to upgrade the same year by year at Dharavi. |

 1985-A branch of CDC was started in a rented hut in a newly growing slum at Babrekar Nagar, Kandivli. Later, that hut and to other huts were purchased to sereve the slum dwellers.. The evangelistic and the social work were carried out side by side. 17.5.1987 a huge fire accident took place in Babrekar Nagar in which more than 600 huts were gutted. |

The slum dwellers lost all their belongings. A large scale relief help programme was launched by CDC with the help of Christian Agency for Social Agent (CASA) special Programme were organized to give out relief help for all the victims by the minister of Urban Development, Govt. of Maharashta. The unorganized hutments of this slum were brought under property planned slum. And this illegal slum become a legal one with the unfiring effort of the boards of Management and the executive Secretory Rev.s.Alfred and Treasurer Mr.G.Samuel of CDC. |

At Babrekar Nagar the shed was enlarged and reconstructed. On the large-scale request of slum dwellers at Barbekar Nagar another Rendeemer English School was started here which lasted for 4 years but. but for want of fund and place and as the public demanded classes in different media, it was closed down. Another basic service was started by opening a community helath clinic as ' Heinz Clinic ' to help and heal the ailing poor people. This was closed down in 2002 for want of financial support and also many private clinics were opened. To help the unemployed and under employed young women, Alice tailoring institute was started. |

 1991- After a long delay and wanting from the land lord side, the land admeasuring 2400 sq.ft. deal was finalized and registered. |

 1992- 9.6.1992 the laying of foundation stone was carried out for a well planned building for CDC by Rev.David c.Birner in the presence of the president Rev.Moon and the Trust Secretary Dr.Alice G.Brauer. |

 1993- 1.6.1993 one more Day Care Centre Our Redeemer Day care Centre was started at the brance of CDC for the Slum children of Bhabrekar Nagar. |

 26.10.1993 Prem Sagar a mega project for the street and working children welfare and development was formally launched. Today its beneficiaries are more than 1000 children of different parts of India may roofless and rofless children have the privilege of baright, colorful future. |

 1994 Jan 1994 a two story building construction at Community Development Centre , Dharavi began. |

 1995 Jan 1995 the newly built Community Development Centre building at Dharavi was of thousands of children and for the spiritual walfare of the local Church. |

On the same Occasion thomas Shelter a night care centre for the boys of street children was started and Naether Tailoring Institute was formally opened to enrich the young women and children of Dharavi slum. |

 1997 A different services to the different status of life style people Commercial Sex Workers ( CSW ) was started at Sonapur, Bhandup a North Eastern part of Mumabi. |

 1998 - 19.1.1998 A home for homeless street girls were started in a rented place at Ganesh Nagar, Kandivli. |

 1999 - 1.9.1999 To enlarge the infrastructure for the increasing needs of helpless and hopeless children street, working children, another 2 story building was constructed a the branch of CDC, Babrekar Nagar, Kandivli. The girls home which began its service in the rented place was shifted to this new building and it was called "Prem Niketan" . This was inaugurated by Dr.Werner Hoerschelmann of KNH and Mr.N.Thomas Rajkumar, Director, HCD released a book, 'ABODE'. |

 2000 -2002 Due to the change of management no new programmes took place but members of beneficiaries increased from 800 to more than 1000. |

August 2003 one more service which was long awaited a night care center known as Dusk to Down was opened for both boys and girls separately for the children of CSW by Mr.S.L.Bright, Gen, Treasurer, IELC, and blessed by Rev.S.Soosappan, Comptroller, IELC. |

October 2003 The Sneha Sagar celebrated its 10th anniversary in which the government officials, prominent Church leaders including the managing trustee graced the occasion blessed and encouraged the children and the staff. |

November 2004 Holistic Child Development India, Pune our partner agency celebrated its tenth aniversary in New Delhi. Our children and staff had the opportunity to take part and rendered their part by exibiting a stall, staging some cultural programmes in it. Some children won in some competitions and our organization was adjudged as best organization. |

Community Development Centre celebrated its Silver Jubliee to the joy of all the Partners, Members, Well wisher, all the IELC leaders thanks giving service, cultural programmes and exhibitions are the highlights of jubiliation. A mini door tempo (Three Wheeler) was inaugurated by the KNH Director and Mr.Deflef Hiller in the presence of HCDI director Mr.N. Thomas Rajkumar mainly transported to the needy children in different parts of Mumbai. |

Neither the Community Development Centre-IELC nore is multiple units boasted ever tis noble but humble service for the twenty five years. It served the weaker sections of the Mumbaikars sepcially the childern at high risk and in great need. Indeed the silent revolution continues with dedication and commitment to share the love of Christ. |
